Delivering Critical Healthcare and Relief to Flood-Affected Communities in Nepal

The devastating flash floods that struck northern and central Nepal On August 26, 2026, catastrophic flash floods swept through Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and surrounding districts in Nepal. The disaster, triggered by a glacier collapse high in the Himalayas, has claimed over 1,451 lives. More than 5,786 individuals are still reported missing as search operations continue. According to international relief agencies, at least 84,270 people have been severely affected. These families have lost their homes, their livelihoods, and their access to everyday essential services (as reported 20/9/2026). Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, and neighboring districts were among the affected areas, with significant disruption to roads, bridges, health facilities, water systems, and other essential infrastructure. The World Health Organization reports that around 10,000 households required immediate relief, while several health facilities were damaged or became difficult to access.

As the emergency response continues, Helping Heart Nepal is supporting flood-affected families in Nuwakot, Rasuwa, and Dhading, in coordination with local government authorities. The organization reports that its response includes hot meals, food packages, non-food items, shelter setup, kitchen utensils, hygiene kits, school bags with study kits for students, emergency medical support, health check-ups and screenings, and the provision of essential medicines to people affected by the disaster.

To address this immediate health crisis, Helping Heart Nepal mobilized emergency medical assistance in Bidur Municipality within Nuwakot District. Hundreds of flood-affected beneficiaries have already received medical services and essential medicines through its medical camp. The assistance is intended to help people manage immediate health concerns at a time when disruption to transport, public services, and household living conditions has made access to healthcare more difficult.

The organization’s approach places emphasis on reaching communities with practical support while respecting dignity and prioritizing urgent needs.
